CUTE VALENTINE’S DAY SAYINGS TO USE ON YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER
Be mine, Valentine!
You take my breath away!
I love you as much as Kaworu Nagisa canonically loves Shinji Ikari, as seen in Episode 24 of Neon Genesis Evangelion and the film Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo. Anno clearly intended this to be canon, as throughout the entire series, Shinji felt rejection from all those around him, such as his father, Asuka, and Misato. Kaworu was the first person in his life that offered him unconditional love, and as Shinji says at the end of Episode 24, he returned that love. Kaworu was the one comfort in Shinji’s life. Further evidence to this is in the 1997 film ‘End of Evangelion’, while all of humanity is seeing comforting imagery, Shinji sees a vision of Kaworu, and in this instance, Shinji smiles for the first time since episode 24. Kaworu’s love for Shinji is even further expanded upon in the Rebuild of Evangelion films. In 2007’s Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone, upon waking on the surface, he mentions that the ‘Third’ hasn’t changed, clearly referring to Shinji, and that he had met him before, all but confirming the Evangelion Loop theory. When returning to Earth in 2009’s Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance, he further solidifies this theory by promising Shinji that “this time, he will bring him happiness”. However, 2011’s Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo provides the most concrete evidence for this theory. In the original 1996 TV series, Kaworu tells Shinji that he “might’ve been born to meet him”. Compare this to in 3.33 when Kaworu’s line is now changed to him saying that he “really was born to meet him”. Kaworu and Shinji’s romantic feelings are shown more prominently throughout the film, such as multiple instances of Kaworu holding Shinji’s hand to comfort him. Hideaki Anno clearly intended for Kaworu and Shinji to have romantic feeling for each other.
We go together like peanut butter and jelly!
